Your HRV data

HRV Breathe reads your heart rate variability data from Apple Health (with your explicit permission, granted in the iOS Health permission dialog). We use those readings to compute the trends shown on the Insights tab, your morning readiness against your own 30-day baseline, and — on the occasions when a new sample lands in Apple Health during a session — the comparison shown on the session-complete screen. If no new sample arrives, nothing is shown and nothing is stored.

The app can also writeto Apple Health, but only if you switch it on. “Log Sessions to Health” is off by default; enabling it records completed sessions as Mindful Minutes and your post-session check-in as a State of Mind entry on iOS 18 and later. That data goes into your own Health store, not to us.

We have no server, so there is nowhere for your HRV to go. Your Apple Health history is queried on your device and no raw sample is ever uploaded. The two HRV values recorded with a session are stored on that session, which syncs through your own private iCloud database to your other Apple devices if iCloud is enabled — your account, not ours. We have no server that receives, processes, or stores any of it. We cannot read your HRV because we never receive it.

Other data the app handles

  • Session history — duration, technique, time, the two HRV readings taken around the session, and your average heart-rate swing if you used the Watch. Stored locally and in your private iCloud container (not visible to us).
  • App preferences — your goal, streak, technique settings, audio choices. Stored locally and in iCloud.
  • Local analytics — anonymous, on-device counts of which screens you visited and which features you used, kept for 90 days and then deleted. They live in a separate database that is deliberately excluded from iCloud sync, and there is no code in the app to export or transmit them. We never see them.

Subscriptions and purchases

All payment is processed by Apple. We never see your name, email, billing address, card number, or any payment information. RevenueCat's SDK is the only thing in the app that makes a network request at all; the app's own code makes none.

We use RevenueCat to validate App Store receipts and to keep your subscription status in sync across your iPhone and Apple Watch. This is the one third party in the app, and we would rather name it than let you discover it. RevenueCat receives an anonymous user identifier, your purchase receipts, and basic device and app-version information. It does not receive your HRV, your sessions, your check-ins, or anything else about your practice — that data never leaves your device, so there is nothing for us to send.

This website

This site (hrv.suur.io) counts page views with two services. Both run only on the website; neither is in the iOS app, and neither ever sees anything about your practice.

  • Google Analytics 4 — sets cookies and assigns an anonymous identifier, and may collect approximate location (country / region), referring URL, and device type. We do not use it for advertising. You can opt out site-wide with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Plausible — a cookieless, EU-hosted counter that records the page, referrer, and coarse device type without storing any identifier for you. There is nothing to opt out of because there is nothing persistent to opt out from.

Running two is a leftover from evaluating both and not finishing the decision; we would rather say so here than quietly ship an analytics script this page doesn’t mention.

If you email us directly at hrv@suur.io, we keep your message in our inbox to respond to you. We never sell, share, or repurpose those emails. They sit in the same mailbox the founders read every day.

Permissions the app requests

  • Apple Health (read).Heart rate variability (SDNN) and, during an Apple Watch session, live heart rate. The app works without it; you just won’t see HRV readings or the live heart-rate swing.
  • Apple Health (write) — opt-in, off by default. If you turn on “Log Sessions to Health” in Settings, completed sessions are written as Mindful Minutes, and your post-session check-in is written as a State of Mind entry on iOS 18 and later. Nothing is written unless you enable this, and it can be turned off at any time.
  • Notifications. Optional. Used for daily reminders, streak reminders, and Physiological Sigh reminders if you enable them. Turn off any time in iOS Settings.
